FORK WEAR, LEAKY NEW SEALS... AGAIN? ![]() ![]() Fork seals giving trouble and starting to leak after being replaced just recently? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() New seals and still oil coming out....... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Pop the seal with a special tool, a piece of soft wood.... or your thumbs ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Fish out the crimp spring ![]() ![]() ![]() Now anybody who ever played around with miniature Wilesco steam engines as a kid recognises these items immediately. Similar springs were used as drive belts for miniature tools such as drill presses, sawing machines and the like. These '' belts " were custom sizeable, by the kid. So here we go! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The spring has a joint, at ten o'clock in this photograph ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Unscrew anti clockwise ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Better use a toe nail clipper instead of this! and cut about a cm off and remount. The seal becomes a slightly tighter fit now and probably does the job just fine. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The forksliders could be worn out as well giving excessive play, making life tough for the seals to hold back the fork oil. Also in that case you might be helped out for a while longer with the above little trick. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Continue to Front Wheel Bearings ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Back to BMW R 90/6 maintenance index / Home ![]() ![]() ![]() FW rev 2021 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A A R D V A N H O L L A N D .
